The Adapt Dx measures the time it takes for a patient’s vision to recover after being exposed to a bright flash of light. This recovery process is called Dark Adaptation. There is a normal amount of time for recovery to occur. If your eye takes longer to dark adapt, Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) may be the cause.
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) affects people as they get older. The macula is the part of the eye that gives us our best vision, our central vision, and color vision. If the pigment breaks down (Dry AMD) or if there is a fluid leak at the macula (Wet AMD), the clarity of vision is reduced. Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in the elderly population. Dry AMD is the most common type (85%) while Wet AMD affects approximate 15% of all AMD patients.
Studies show that the Adapt Dx identifies patients at-risk for developing AMD 3-5 years before any visible changes can be seen at an eye exam. This is critical because the only treatment for Dry Macular Degeneration is to take supplements that support the Macular Pigment and delay the onset and progression of AMD. If you can start taking the supplements several years earlier than you would otherwise, you are that much farther ahead in addressing AMD.
The Adapt Dx is a vital tool we use to help you have Great Vision for Your Lifetime.
